My conversation is going to take place between the charters of George, from the novel Of Mice and Men, and Ralph form the novel Lord of the Flies. George has just joined "Adult New Best Friend Finder" and is on the phone with one of the consultants who works for this brand new and exciting online matchmaking company.
Ralph: Hello, this is Ralph form Adult New best Friend Finder, is the George?
George: Yes this is George, I've been waiting for a reply for quite some time, whats taking so darn long
Ralph: Well I'm sorry to inconvenience you George, but we here at Adult New Best Friend Finder like to make sure that you are matched with all possible dimensions to your future new best friend.
George: Ok ok, what do ya need.
Ralph: My department is just curious as too why you are looking for a new best friend
George: Well unfortunately I killed my old one, i let my feelings get the best of me and acting on impulse instead of thinking through my actions clearly i made a terrible mistake.
Ralph: George I completely understand were you are coming from. I was stranded on an Island for quite some time and due to the violent nature of people, when they get emotionally excited they often do things they will regret in the future.
George: Do you mind me asking what happened exactly?
Ralph: Everything was going....as smooth as possible i suppose, until a boy named Jack separated all of us kids into two tribes by being power hungry and wanting to rely on violence and hunting. Simon, one of my friends on the island was beating to death and ripped apart, and the intellectual of the island, Piggy, was hit in the head with a rock and also killed.
George: I'm awful sorry to hear that
Ralph: Yes it was most unfortunate, what do you think the reason is that this is such a reoccurring event, people acting without thinking.
George: I believe it is because people get so caught up in the moment and forget about all past relations, as well as future consequences and that is when terrible mistakes are made.
Ralph: That is pretty deep analysis, I wish out social structure was slightly less power oriented, i believe this would also have a positive impact on our society.
George: As a bottom of the barrel farm worker i know all about social classes and what not, its not fair that the richer get richer and the poor get poorer.
Ralph: Seeing as i am a kid i don't have a lot of experience with social classes but i do agree that their needs to be more equality, on the island we used a conch shell to represent who was speaking, in hopes everyone would be respectful and listen until their turn to speak arose. If society used a similar, obviously much more complicated, method to give not just the rich and famous exposure to the public, but everyone, then all views and opinions would be heard so the best choices for society as a whole could be made.
George: Aint that an idea. Good luck on that there skipper, but people like me, the ones who struggle to make ends meat, we always gone be around. Just the way things are.
Ralph: Come on now George don't talk like that. You mustn't give up hope.
George: (mutters) all we wanted was rabbits
Ralph: I'm sorry what was that?
George: Oh nothing, just my buddie Lennie always wanted rabbits.
Ralph: Aww I'm sorry to here that.
George: He would always make me tell him the same story about how when we finally had enough money, we were going to get a small ranch and live off the land, just the two of us. All he dreamed about was that land, those rabbits.
Ralph: Hopes and dreams are powerful tools, the hope of rescue and survival is what motivated me as i was chased through the jungle by a pack of savage, bloodthirsty children..
George: Yes, without hope their isn't much reason to live...u ever read that book Night?
Ralph: No, i don't believe so, why?
George: Just about a young boy and his father who are trying to survive a Nazi concentration camp. Shows what happens to people when they give in and loose hope, just walk right out into a situation of certain death, with the hope goes their life.
Ralph: I'll have to go check that out at the library. Well George it has been pleasant chatting with you. Unfortunately i must go i have many other calls to make. I hope we can find the perfect best friend for you, I'm sure u will treat this one better.
George: You have a nice day Ralph, see ya round.
